Portable batteries and accumulators

Portable batteries and accumulators

Portable batteries and accumulators are batteries and accumulators other than ones designed solely for industrial or professional use or ones used in electric vehicles, and other than accumulators used for automotive starter, lighting or ignition power. Portable batteries and accumulators are sealed and can be hand-carried.

Portable batteries and accumulators are divided into primary and secondary batteries.

Typical primary batteries (=batteries):

  • Household batteries (alkaline and manganese batteries)
  • Button cells (mercury, lithium and zinc)
  • Lithium batteries (both as household and industrial batteries)

Typical secondary batteries (=accumulators):

  • Nickel-cadmium batteries (NiCad)
  • Nickel-metal hybride batteries (NiMh)
  • Lithium-ion batteries (LiIon)
  • Lithium polymer batteries (LiPol)
  • Lead-acid batteries (Pb)
